Hello, ! A brief : I'm a long time Mastodon user and a moderator at another instance, and because of my interest support for Scottish independence, I've volunteered to help with the moderation here. I'd be glad to help answer any questions you have as you get settled in.

Take a minute to look at this guide by @noelle which tells you how Mastodon is different from Twitter and shows you features you may not have noticed:

@gcupc @noelle Hello GCU from 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Thank you for the warm welcome xxx

@gcupc @noelle Thank you! This is brilliant, I read the guide on altervista which brought to my attention the other platforms which also use ActivityPub - and this is clearly the way forward for Social Networking. Facebook and Twitter have had their day. I also fully agree with Eragon about the lack of a "quote tweet" - it was indeed the cause of most Twitter pile-ons I would be very happy to see that avoided.

@gcupc love the Culture name. we need some clarity on policy here. a great deal of the twitterexodus is prompted by Twitter's arbitrary suspension/blocking of indy voices. Not much point, it Mastodon will do the same thing. what gives?

@ArgyllAtheist Hi! This instance is a signatory of the Mastodon Server Covenant. That means we actively moderate against racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia. More info here: joinmastodon.org/covenant

@gcupc see... that's an answer, but it's also not an answer. nobody supports discrimination... but there are far too many loose accusations of transphobia thrown around with the sole intent of silencing folks. I imagine the only way to get peace of mind is watch how that moderation works in practice. I'm hoping - 'not like twitter'.

@ArgyllAtheist If you're looking to push boundaries, this may not be the best instance for you. You may prefer a relatively unmoderated instance such as freespeechextremist.com. If you're interested in "gender critical" content specifically, you should move to spinster.xyz. Note that most fediverse instances do not federate with these sites.

@gcupc @noelle thank you for taking the time to post this. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@Agrandadathome Could be it's actually a webp rather than actually a gif...I don't think mastodon supports those yet, but giphy has started handing them out.

@gcupc could be...not a massive problem as loving the rest of this😁

@gcupc @noelle
Many thanks for this. Though I'm currently on .cloud (I've been on since early summer) - really like the power and flexibility (plus dispersed nature of the instances).

@gcupc @noelle Thank you for this guide - much clearer now. I've now got Amaroq as my mobile app. Seems to work ok [for now].
