Sealed up entrance to the abandoned railway line under Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow. This tunnel led from the old Kelvin Bridge Station to what is now Exhibition Centre in Finnieston. The line was closed in the 1960s.
The next place where this line is visible is from the beer Garden of the Finnieston Bar on Argyle Street.

In December 1994, the River Kelvin was in full spate and broke through its retaining wall just upstream from here. The water flowed through this tunnel before emerging to engulf the Exhibition Centre Station, flood the car park of the Exhbition Centre itself and finally cascade into the Clyde. In the aftermath of this event, this entrance was sealed up.

@thisismyglasgow "Sealed up" - another decent spate would still flood it.
@alanfleming Very true. I was meaning sealed up to people and not water, as there was a worry that people had been sleeping rough in the tunnel when it flooded.
The slightly disturbing thing is that the earth and gravel bank that was originally put in place to stop this tunnel flooding again seems to have pretty much disappeared in recent years and there'a now little or no flood defence left.
@thisismyglasgow I think there's an inevitability here tbh. It's the natural drainage point of that whole low area at the subway station. Remind me - how long did it shut down the low level line for?
@alanfleming I think it was at was at least three or four months, but they've now built on the old SECC car parks that flooded as all the water drained into the Clyde, so if it happened again, it would now take out The Hydro and The Armadillo. I have some photos somewhere of the flooded Exhibition Centre Station and the car parks.
@thisismyglasgow @alanfleming Might have poked my nose in that one a couple of times
