Much truth here, worth a read in these uncertain times.
"The news ... is a bad thing. It’s an enervating, confusing, stress-inducing, dubious, unnecessary force that shakes the foundation of our own personal agency"
Especially political news is of no value, except in the run-up to an election, when we in democracies wield some power. We should then inform ourselves.
In between those times, we are powerless; news can only provoke outrage, partisanship and frustration.

@withaveeay I agree it can be a mental health problem. On the other hand, if you get some fairly regularly, it makes it harder for politicians to pull the wool over your eyes with unrealistic election promises.
