@Yes2020 It's certainly challenging for trees, but we've had some success with trees around our house for the last 25 years. It's true that the wind nips the tops of trees, making quick or full growth difficult. But the main problem is over-grazing by both sheep and deer. It simply doesn't allow young trees to take off.
Some areas of Assynt, for example, around Nedd or Torbreck, are beautifully treed. Those places do offer better wind protection, though.
