This is probably the best example I've come across of how to fill a tenement gap site with a sympathetically designed newer replacement. It's on the corner of Woodlands Road and West End Park Street, and was built (as far as I can work out) in the late 1980s.
Despite being a new-build, it has perfectly maintained the roofline with existing tenements as well as incorporating the intricate little details that make each Glasgow tenement block unique.
I particularly like the corner tower, the pillars around the entrance at its base, and clock done out in the blue and gold of old Glasgow clocks (like the one in the Tollbooth Steeple).
I also love the cat perched on one of the upper window sills, but more of that in a later post!
@thisismyglasgow Sympathetic replacement architecture to fill gaps was not common in Glasgow.
Many streets have been devastated by appalling 60/70s buildings. And the centre savaged by aesthetic horrors
@mbrmark You are right that such sympathetic gap-filling is, unfortunately, a rarety in Glasgow.
