The scheme … is now so far advanced that the offer has been accepted, and Fletcher Bros. are instructed by cable to prepare the marble for erection and ship it. The marble is grey, with dark veins. It comes from the donors’ quarry at Takaka (Nelson), and is being fashioned in Auckland so as to be ready for the contractor. This Is My Glasgow<p>At 12:01am on the 14th of March 1941, which is 83 years ago tonight, 110 people were killed when a parachute mine was dropped by a German bomber on Nelson Street in the Tradeston area of Glasgow, near this junction with Centre Street. This was around 10% of all the fatalities in what is now known as the Clydebank Blitz. </p><p>Cont./</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/clydebankblitz" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>clydebankblitz</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/warmemorials" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>warmemorials</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>glasgowhistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/wwiihistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>wwiihistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/wwii" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>wwii</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/tradeston" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>tradeston</span></a></p>

This Is My Glasgow<p>The statue on the top is a stylised representation of Dolores Ibarruri, who died in 1989, who was known as &#39;La Pasionaria&#39; because of her rousing speeches against fascism.
