John Arnold_The Evening Post_, 26 October 1923: LOCAL AND GENERAL … When Mr. James <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Fletcher" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Fletcher</a>, of <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Dunedin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Dunedin</a>, was recently in the Old Country he spent some time at his native place, <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Kirkintilloch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Kirkintilloch</a>, where the question of a war memorial was being discussed, and he offered on behalf of himself and his brothers to make a donation of the necessary quantity of New Zealand marble, up to 80 tons. The scheme … is now so far advanced that the offer has been accepted, and Fletcher Bros. are instructed by cable to prepare the marble for erection and ship it. The marble is grey, with dark veins. It comes from the donors’ quarry at Takaka (Nelson), and is being fashioned in Auckland so as to be ready for the contractor. John Arnold_The Evening Post_, 15 September 1924: NELSON COLLEGE WAR MEMORIAL The attention of the Old Boys of <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Nelson" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Nelson</a> College is directed to an advertisement in another column in connection with the opening of the <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/Scriptorium" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Scriptorium</a>, which has been erected by the Old Boys’ Association as a memorial to the old boys of the college who fell in the late war. His Excellency the Governor-General will perform the opening ceremony and unveil the memorial tablet. This Is My GlasgowThe statue on the top is a stylised representation of Dolores Ibarruri, who died in 1989, who was known as 'La Pasionaria' because of her rousing speeches against fascism. This Is My GlasgowLa Pasionaria, Clyde Street, Glasgow. Erected in 1979, this is a memorial to the members of the International Brigade who travelled to Spain in the 1930s to fight against fascism in the Spanish Civil War. IWM have no photo.
