"The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy."
- Elon Musk
"The death of human empathy is one of the earliest and most telling signs of a culture about to fall into barbarism."
- Hannah Arendt
@MadeyeTheCarnaptious @aral It's just incredible he dared saying this. How could he ? Only a psychopath sociopath monster could declare such thing.
@stman @MadeyeTheCarnaptious @aral Asked and answered.
"From her start, America was torn by the clash of her political system with the altruist morality. Capitalism and altruism are incompatible; they are philosophical opposites; they cannot co-exist in the same man or in the same society."
- Ayn Rand (with whom I rarely agree)
@Professor_Stevens @MadeyeTheCarnaptious Yeah but wasn't she arguing for capitalism and against altruism/morality?
@sothach @MadeyeTheCarnaptious
She sure was. Interesting, then, that her statement above does not indicate a preference. She was right: capitalism and altruism are incompatible. To a Randite, that's proof that altruism must be suppressed, because it was axiomatic to her thinking that capitalism was never to be impeded. But those of us who see altruism as the best of human nature simply come to the opposite conclusion.
@MadeyeTheCarnaptious of course Elon Muskrat would see Empathy as a weakness, he's a business mogul whos fortune came at the back of slave labor and ill-gotten gains, thats throws his weight around into places it doesnt belong, and one of these days he's going to throw it right out the window, and there wont be a business to catch him
