I think I'd like this book:
A Facebook Insider’s Exposé Alleges Bad Behavior at the Top
“Careless People,” a memoir by a former Facebook executive, portrays feckless company leaders cozying up to authoritarian regimes.
@decembr14 The author was personally responsible for persuading the junta in Myanmar to allow Facebook into the country - providing a means of igniting actions that caused many many deaths and then fanning the flames.

Source?
Its record in Myanmar is indefensible, but (according to the BBC article linked below) Facebook was in the country since 2010. Wynn-Williams did not join Facebook until 2011.
@decembr14 Here - According to Wynn-Williams, Facebook’s most lethal impact is in Myanmar. She was sent there to overturn the junta’s ban, which she succeeded in doing after a very Bridget Jones-style episode in which she wangled her way into a party where she met a junta member, got a meeting at the communications ministry, then hitched a ride with a Burmese who couldn’t speak English to get to it on time.
@Wen
Interesting; that must have been the temporary block in 2014, which was imposed by “the authorities” under the elected government of 2011. Talk of the “junta” confused me; military rule only resumed in February 2021, shortly after which the generals did indeed try to block Facebook—3 or 4 years after Wynn-Williams had left. Maybe it will all be clearer in the book.
@decembr14 That seems to be the case. She does seem to regret it after the fact.
