@Wen 100%. The centralisation of services is only for the benefit of the service provider. I'd be surprised to learn that environmental concerns are even part of any decision-making process. I think there should be travelling clinics. Move one specialist around the country rather than expecting 100s of patients to move themselves around the country.
@CloudyMrs @Wen Definitely should be more localised, public services. Friend in Orkney had to travel to Central Belt for cataract op. Return plane journey and 3 nights away from home adding to stress and discomfort. Don't know how less-abled people on islands manage.
@muminitaly @Wen yip. The length of journeys folk are having to make from the far North and the islands wouldn't be believed by folk living in the central belt. Five or six hour round trips for ten minute appointments aren't unusual. Maternity care is horrific. A few years ago I took my mum from Glasgow to Ardgay, two days post hip replacement. Horrible trip.
