Just been on Facebook and it suggested a page called 'Celts' to me. The post itself was fine, but it did make me consider something.
Most pages I have ever seen saying they're about 'Celts' or 'Celtic' things it only takes a tiny bit of scrolling to find stuff that comes off as either subtly #racist or white #supremacist.
So, do you agree or not?
You'll note my username is Alternatecelt, this is why it bothers me. I wouldn’t want to be confused with a supremacist!
#Racism #celts
@Alternatecelt Haven't been on Facebook for years, but pages about Celts and Vikings tended to cater to white nationalists, or at least attract them.
@bodhipaksa
Yes, vikings too, of course. I have noticed before, but it was really only today that I thought about my own username in connection with it.
I wouldn’t bother with Facebook if it wasn't for work
@Alternatecelt Anything linked with nationality or cultural/ethnic groupings can, by their very nature, be associated with supremacism, justifiably or not. I don't see "celtic" as being a dog-whistle term, but I suppose there's always the possibility that it could be hijacked.
