Can't talk to their original use but I know at least one of them was used for delivery of mailbags for onward journey by train. I think the other may give access to office space.
@BryanTheSnail Interesting, thought they looked bit narrow for lot of passenger traffic, so that's probably what they were. Nice wee feature anyway, glad they've been preserved

This knowledge dates from the 70s so I wouldn't rely on it being the current usage.
