My day usually starts at 5.00am – I appreciate the silence before the world wakes, a good time for reading (and an excuse to squeeze extra cups of black coffee into the morning ️).
Two books this morning: returning to Slad with Laurie Lee, and to vanished wildwoods with Oliver Rackham. Lee, I love – a local hero, whose writing is as fresh as ever. #ReadingPile #books #reading
@andywasley always love to see some Laurie Lee appreciation, Cider With Rosie is such a gem of a book. Will keep an eye out for the other title.
@Funktious It’s a treat. His later memoirs are excellent too – As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning is very very funny in places, and A Moment of War is pensive, fascinating and (perhaps too) imaginative.
@andywasley 2 classics I always come back to. Whilst Silent Spring was important The Edge of The Sea is exquisite " the life breath of science on the still glass of poetry" as the cover quotes #naturewriting #rachelcarson #christianeritter #nature
@andywasley Another lover of quiet and solitary mornings! Reading, meditating, thinking, a good cup of tea.
It is the hours before everyone else wakes up that makes some days bearable.
