Star Trek: The Next Generation S1E16: When The Bough Breaks. In which the crew encounter the Aldeans, who have abdicated all their decisions to a computer “the Custodian” many hundreds of years ago. The Aldeans do not understand (and cannot maintain) the Custodian, nor any of its rationale in decision making. Yet they entrust it with all their decisions. They are on the brink of extinction, despite their technical prowess.
Poignant satire of chatGPT. First aired… 1991. #StarTrek #chatgpt
A small correction: first aired 1988. Turns out imdb has some automagic correction of release dates depending on where you’re accessing it from. Ep first aired *in the UK* 1991. Witty joke about the irony of trusting a computer and getting it wrong whilst satirising chatGPT goes here…
@herdingdata for that matter the David Bowie song 𝘚𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘔𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘦 see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-AMec7yr7c

And then there's Doctor Who - City of Death...
"DOCTOR: Hmm? What do you make of that, then?
ROMANA: Well, at least on Gallifrey we can capture a good likeness. Computers can draw.
DOCTOR: What? Computer pictures? You sit in Paris and talk of computer pictures? Listen, I'll take you somewhere and show you some real paintings painted by real people.
ROMANA: What about the time slip?
DOCTOR: Never mind about the time slip. We're on holiday. Come on!"
Paramount+ shows this as S1E17 with an air date of Feb 15, 1988. I’m sorry to read you may have waited 3 more years than what we had in the US!
@Bryan I was going by imdb and it appears that’s exactly what happened. Happy to stand corrected
