"It isn't all serious competition with a few entertaining events including:The Barrel Race - the aim is to push a whisky barrel (empty!) uphill as fast as possible using only a broom handle. This event is, we think, unique to Tomintoul and originated in distilleries where the warehousemen indulged in a little light relief at lunch time competing against one another..."

@scottishlass I used to play in the Ballater pipe band and tomintoul games were may favourite one because everyone was so friendly.
@sairfecht Fabulous! Always think it's where pipes were *meant* to be heard in wide open spaces. The games had a tough time between COVID and being rained off a few times in recent years - a real blow to the community. The bands in the Square is always a particular highlight. I've been up on hills a couple of miles away and still heard everything clear as a bell #NotSayingPipesAreLoud #Bagpipes
