Speckled Wood butterfly today basking on Bramble and on path edge, in cool conditions. In between times, very fast and flighty, seeking flowers but not settling on them when it found them. Among some mature broadleaf and mature conifer, near Kippenrait Glen SSSI, but outside its boundary. They seem to be extending their distribution recently in our area. #ScottishWildlife #InvertFest #butterflies
@stirclacswt Lovely pics and super camouflage. Speckled wood butterflies used to be absent from Perthshire but we’ve been seeing them here in in the past three years. They’re almost becoming common.
@stirclacswt we’ve been seeing them in our bit of the Borders these last few years, mixed farmland with many mature oaks, they seem to like the golden hop in my garden.
